Transition into Position
Over the last 2 years I (Jack) have been on a journey. When I was in one of the darkest times of my life and thought there was no hope left (2018-2021), Jesus came in and met me when I needed it most. He not only healed me, but transformed how I saw Him and the world. The last two years have been a whirlwind of learning to hear from God and minister in the power of the Spirit.
We have connected deeply with the other Vineyard Churches around as well as a couple of Bethel aligned churches that have kindly discipled us in our walk in learning to let the Spirit lead the church, our ministry and our every day lives. I am going back to the Philippines empowered by the Holy Spirit and walking with Jesus in a way that I never have before; my expectations are high.
I went to Brazil last month with Global Awakening and saw God work in amazing ways. I believe the Lord is going to work in similar ways in the Philippines. Instead of calling the people in to a church (few churches exist in the Payatas slums, the only church I know of is a small Catholic Church, in a 3 square mile area where 500,000 people live), we are going to be the hands and feet of Jesus in the slums. I am so thankful for our time of training with Mercy in Action and specifically Vicki, Scott and Ian Penwell for teaching us to be the hands and feet of Jesus to the poor. We are going to check on the families we helped during the pandemic, and we will give updates and praise reports on what is happening with the families. We are going back, and with the power of God with us.

The Lord did two great works in me in Brazil. He started to set me free of the fear of man (worrying what people think about me, instead of what God thinks) and called me to be who he created me to be. The other major work was releasing a vision for me in how the Philippines ministry and our ministry in Colorado are to work together. Instead of two separate ministries, we are now working to make them one; a ministry in which Jesus is glorified on opposite sides of the earth, and where Americans are discipled in the Philippines and changing the spiritual landscape of the Philippines at the same time.

Jesus to the Poor
Payatas is a barangay that was built around the dumpsite in Manila (Quezon City). The barangay has a difficult past, including a landslide of trash at the dump one night in the early 2000s that killed thousands of people. Many, probably even a majority, of the men use methamphetamines. They often get hooked on the drug early as it helps them stay awake for long shifts working on the garbage trucks. It is a terribly difficult area with much spiritual darkness. Because of the squalor, smell and lack of quality employment, few pastors want to work in this barangay. I believe this is about to change.
Our HopeOur greatest prayer request on this part of the trip is that the Lord will raise up a pastor, who is completely sold out to the Lord and hungry for Jesus and His presence. I believe the spiritual landscape of this barangay of 500k people is about to change, and it is going to start with God calling a hungry pastor, transformed by the power and presence of the living God.

We also hope to have a revival type meeting in Payatas on the last night of our trip in Manila, where people will hear the good news of the Kingdom, worship together, eat together and experience the freedom and healing of Jesus. We were not able to preach the Gospel when we brought food to the families during Covid. Now we will preach the good news and demonstrate the love and power of our God. We are hoping to raise $1000 for this service (we will do the same and hope to raise the same for a similar service on our island, Calapan).
The Work
We are very excited for our time in Manila and are approaching this time with great anticipation. We believe we will see many lives transformed as people come in to a true and deep relationship with the Lord Jesus. People will experience His healing and people will be set free. God is on the move.
Five of the children from Arise Children’s Home, and two of the staff are going to meet us in Manila to minister to people. I am going to begin training the teenagers and staff (including my daughter Layla) to minister in the power of the Spirit to some of the poorest of the poor in Manila. We are going to walk together in ministering to people for one or two days, then I will send them off in groups of two or three to minister healing, freedom, love and salvation to those in need. We are seeing the Lord heal in the church and school on our island, now we will go to the people and train up His followers to minister like He did. |
